Water Tower Conversion – External Wall Insulation & Silicone Render​

Project Overview

Our team recently completed the external wall insulation and rendering works on a unique residential conversion project, transforming a former water tower into a family home.

​

Repurposing an existing water tower into a residential property presents a distinctive set of requirements, particularly when it comes to improving the building's thermal performance while achieving a high-quality external finish.

As part of the renovation, we were appointed to install a comprehensive external wall insulation (EWI) system using PermaRock materials.

​

The Challenge

Converting a former water tower into a comfortable, energy-efficient family home requires careful consideration of the existing building fabric.

​

Unlike a conventional new-build property, the project involved upgrading a structure originally designed for an entirely different purpose.

​

The external envelope needed to be adapted to support its new residential use, with thermal efficiency, durability and appearance all important considerations.

Our Solution: 250mm PermaRock External Wall Insulation

To support the building's thermal upgrade, our team installed a PermaRock external wall insulation system incorporating 250mm-thick insulation boards.

​

The substantial insulation thickness was specified to improve the thermal performance of the existing structure, helping to reduce heat loss and support a more comfortable internal environment.

​

For the final decorative finish, we applied PermaRock SiliconeUltra K-Finish, providing a durable and attractive rendered exterior.

​

The silicone-based finish offers excellent weather resistance and water repellency while maintaining vapour permeability, making it a suitable choice for exposed external elevations.
